In December, 2004, I was traveling with my friend across Asia and happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (Phuket, Thailand) when the Indian Ocean tsunami happened on December 26, 2004.
Over the years, I've written here and there about that experience, and now that it's <<unbelievably>> almost been 20 years since it happened, I find that I am forgetting more and more details about a life-changing event that I thought would be seared in my mind forever.
I now find myself scrambling a little to get it all written down before it really starts to fade. I'll be adding posts here that I wrote back then (on Salon and Wordpress) and then adding new posts as I dig back into my memory.
Best case scenario is that I'll be heading back in 2024 for the 20th anniversary to retrace my steps and to complete the trip as it had been planned before it was unexpectedly and violently upended.
